CBLA Field Manual

I'm starting to worry about a visit from Homeland Security.   I found this on the blog of W6IEE. He blames K6FWT.

The CBLA has a Yahoo Group: https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/CBLA/info

  1. I have always wanted to do a Field day where your goal is to dumpster dive for the parts and build a radio and make a contact (or more).

  3. Bruce, having acquired a large portion of my parts by dumpster diving and by promoting my front porch as an 'official E-Waste drop site' I can vouch for the viability of this idea. I've built many ugly RF stages with such parts.

Tip for salvaging said parts: If you can't afford a Hakko 808 desoldering gun, a cheap ratshack desoldering iron and a few extra desoldering tips will do the trick. A heat gun comes in handy as well.

Our predecessors (likely some of you) made enclosures by recycling soup cans and hammering them out flat. They checked their signal outputs for harmonics by using christmas tree lights (soup loop, anyone?).

Ideas like Bruce's and movements like the Color Burst Liberation Army are the things that make ham radio such an exciting learning experience.

My crystal is on its way (thank you so much, Bill!) and I can't wait to join the ranks!

The CBLA logo needs to be made into a patch. I could see patches for different ranks too :) .

Viva la soldersmoke and viva la C(B)LA!
